*i don't know, i don't know the movie song. 2001-07-16 8:18 p.m.*

i had to go in to sarasota today when mom went to work because i had a dentist appointment at 3, and the dentist is way closer to her work than our house. but i had her leave me at einstein bagels so i could have a day of bagels, beverages, brant's and barnes and noble.

in einstein brother's, i ordered a cheese bagel, and i turned around, and hotdog was there (think last names, new college folk). he apparently is working at a preschool this summer. he's living with 2 of the capoeira boys. apparently one of them fell off of college hall's roof and is in the hospital. but he just broke his arm and hand and stuff, which, well, if you fall off of college hall's roof that's not so bad. hotdog fell off the roof once and broke his collar bone. those crazy boys.

he had to leave to go to work, but it was still half an hour before anything else opened, so i got a mango and orange bagel, which was not the wisest decision of my life, and started reading asian american dreams 'cause there was an awesome interview with helen zia in bamboo girl.

i finished the bagel and wandered over to brant's used books, but the feeling that i was going to fall through the floor was quickly too much for me. so i went to barnes and noble to kill the next 5 hours, and spend my $50 mypoints b&n gift certificate. i actually hate b&n with a blinding passion of a thousand suns. they're so big and corporate and they kill little independent bookstores. but they're SOOO tempting. such a beautiful evil... so when i had an ass ton of mypoints i decided to use it on them. most of the other places i can't spend them anyway, 'cause there's not a store around. but anyway... i spent a long time in the magazines. i paged through mary-kate and ashley olson, and i mean it's horrible and self-centered and about pleasing boys, but it's better than the magazines i grew up with. there were a couple people with fairly normal body types, and people with braces! and i dunno, i was surprisingly unoffended by most of it. and i looked at the advocate and girlfriends and curve and the utne reader and the face and colors and... um... doll reader and barbie bazaar.

then i went and looked for what flb books they had, but they didn't have the rose and the beast in the teen or adult section. so sad, too bad. that was probably the most disappointing part of my outing.

i browsed the kids' section, and that was fun, but i was looking for smallish books like mr. men and little miss to send to my secret pal and/or james, but they didn't have any. but i drool over kid's books.

i got a few cards (all with cute fuzzy animals on them. what does that mean?) for james, and then i wandered over to the glbt books. i got this exciting looking book, stars inside her: lesbian erotic fantasy. i read through some of it, and some of it's not the best written, but yo, one of the stories has this woman licking another woman's wings tattoo and they become real wings. woo! that's a lesbian erotic fantasy of mine, so... i had to get it. and i also got snow white, blood red which i've been wanting for years. since i first saw it, my jr. or sr. year of high school. it's a book of growned-up fairy tales. very exciting. i love it when people redo fairy tales (as you all probably know), and especially when they emphasize the dark aspects.

anyway... and then i pored over the music section. there was so much i wanted, but they're mainly overpriced. but finally i decided i had to get indigo girls: rites of passage, because i've been wanting that all semester/summer, and the folkways collection of children's folk songs, 'cause it's got a bunch of my favorites, and it's lead belly and woody guthrie and pete seeger and stuff. it's got pete seeger doing"all around the kitchen" on it which has been this family song since i dressed like a pilgrim and did it for my kindergarten thanksgiving show.

anyway, i wrote all three cards to james, though i felt weird writing cards that i bought in the same place i bought them. like i was blatantly stealing them or somethign. but i'd already paid for them, so whatever.

and then off to smoothie king for a pineapple smoothie. mmm... so good. i had that and read more of the asian american dreams book, and waited for mom. she showed up and it was off to the dentist.

i love having my teeth cleaned. i so rarely have any problems at all, and it's just nice to have someone do something to you while you just sit there, and my teeth feel so happy afterwards. and my dental hygienist is the sweetest woman ever. she was a lot more conversational than she usually is. usually her conversation is limited to "you have such perfect teeth!" "you look just like your father!" and "you have obscene tonsils. so does your mom." but today, like it was actually a real give and take. and more topics. so it was fun.

and then i came home and mom went to the grocery store, so i snuck a long distance phone call to my favorite girl in the world, and that was wonderful.

and then mom came back and we had dinner, and i wish michael or kin would get back to me about the boy house, and that kid e could stop hurting, but otherwise my life feels sweet.
